You know you’ve made it in the world when your parents, who have a 5-bedroom house, come to visit you for Thanksgiving.

This event isn’t really relevant to anyone who’s not in my family, cuz I don’t have room to put up more than my mom, dad, brother, and sister-in-law. But it sets the right precedent. YOU should come visit a different weekend :)

Park City Mountain Resort is scheduled to open Nov 17. I got my pass. It snowed already on Sept 16, so maybe we’ll get lifts going even earlier.

It’s that time of year again — all the firstyears at Pomona College (now up to 6 years younger than me. whoa!) get to go have the time of their lives on Orientation Adventure trips. I don’t get to go on one, but I will be sort of the man behind the man, behind the man… that makes it happen.

I don’t know how many times I’ve driven up and down the west coast. But since I found myself in Park City, UT, a mere 12ish hours away from Portland, I figure one more won’t hurt. I leave here July 15th, and within a week or so I’ll be in Portland. My parents arrive the 27th and I’ll probably head to the beach with them for a couple days. Then I’ll stop by a few places in California (Ferndale, Oakland/San Fran) and resume work in Claremont. Hooray.

I’m going to Park City, Utah, mountain bike in tow, to learn about hyperbolic geometry and chill with a bunch of math nerds. It’s going to be sweet.

It’s cool when your mom invites you somewhere because you know it’ll be within your budget because you won’t have to pay. Maybe that doesn’t always work, but after I graduate my mom invited me to see Florence and Venice with her and my dad, and I don’t think I can pass that up.

The plans are now in place – Folu and Berky will be joining me and Italy and we’ll hop over to Prague for my birthday. Flying back to LA June 12 and getting crackin on OA before jetting off to do math in Park City, UT.

Despite offering many science majors, Pomona College can only make you a Bachelor of the Arts. That’s OK, I always thought having a BS degree sounded kind of silly.

God willing, I’ll get a piece of paper with my name, “Bachelor of the Art of Math,” and “Our tribute to Christian civilization” printed on it, worth about $120,000. And my parents will take me to a nice dinner. Sweet.
