Holy Crap!

Just when it seemed like everything was going my way and life couldn’t be more fun and even if I’m as nice as I try to be I must’ve used up my good karma by now… some crackhead in San Francisco broke into my car. They stole my iPod, which I have always, knowingly naively, left in plain view under the dash, and also my expedition backpack with most of my camping gear! Fortunately I have comprehensive insurance on my car which will cover the damage (minus $250), but it won’t cover the gear, but at least the stuff wasn’t extremely valuable (total around a grand). Fortunately I had decided at the last minute to ship my iMac rather than pack it, and I was smart enough to lock my (borrowed) laptop in the trunk.

I was pissed though because it put a damper on my almost continuous 3-month long “everything works out well” high (from Wisconsin to STL to OA in LA to Oahu to SLO to SF, I tell ya, things were all goin’ my way).

It was kinda funny because before I left for Hawaii I was thinking I should renew my personal property insurance since I’d be traveling so much and have valuable shit in my car. But I didn’t get around to it before I left.

But now I know I have angels watching me because I just checked my old insurance policy and it turns out, since I was lazy and didn’t get it until October, my old policy is still good for 34 more days!!! It’s a good policy too… it goes up to $2000 and it’s “replacement cost”… $100 deductible, oh well. So I’m out some hassle and paperwork and $350. Could be a lot worse.

The drive to Portland was beyoootiful. I covered most of highway 1… I’ll post more soon.
